Thanks for the heads up. Vanguard was one of those games on my list to try if they every provided a downloadable trial. I’ll probably get it this weekend.

I probably won’t pick the game up full time, but the trial would be nice. I’ve got WAR, which is wickedly awesome and my guild in WoW is starting to merge with another guild so things might actually be starting to happen in prep for WOTLK. I might be able to see more than just Kara for a change.

So, I won’t be able to play it full time even if I end up liking it, but I do want to take the opportunity to say that I did try it once.

I tried out Vanguard a month or two ago, but I just couldn’t get into it. I think a big barrier for me was (I’m ashamed to admit) the look of the characters. I’ve seen it called “plastic fantastic.”

But I heard they expanded some of the character options, and so I have to second that it is a real shame they released this now. Because I am full-on way into WAR right now, even with the technical issues the game, I am having a blast! But I’ve spent the past year having to talk myself into logging into WoW, only to log right back out and start Team Fortress 2. So I guess it makes sense.

Right now, WAR is to pvp for me what LOTRO is to pve. I am so stoked on these two games. But I still play TF2 more than anything else, lol.

Loving Vanguard, and like Mark from time to time I dislike the lower population of the game. Having a 41 blood mage (45 mineralogist) and my typical plethora of alts, it’s as interesting and as complex as I always wanted it to be, which I’m glad it didn’t lose over time.

I have a level 50 Shaman in Vanguard. I have to say, I love the game. I decided to give WAR a try. It’s a bit shallow. You are pretty much guided along. I prefer the open world of Vanguard. The only problem I am having with Vanguard is the lack of population.

I will keep WAR for the fast PVP – but its more like an FPS / MMORPG. A lot of wash / rinsce / repeat. I still prefer the depth, variety, and conent of Vanguard and will keep it around and continue raiding.

Yeah, Vanguard is kinda an attempt at having an “old school” game while still using many of the “new school” conventions we’ve grown accustomed to.

I’m just glad McQuaid is gone. The “new” team at SOE is mostly the original team from Sigil and they’ve been pretty open with the community, and so far I’ve liked the direction they’re taking even if they make a few missteps along the way.

Amatheon, I’m not sure that VG doesn’t follow previous generation MMO mechanics. In fact, given the “Vision” of McQuaid I’m inclined to believe it’s older-school than any of the newer (2004+) MMOGs. It’s still a good game underneath the heat it took, and deserves a look.

But alas, I am enamored with WAR myself right now and VG will have to wait still for a lull in my gaming fervor.

This was a very good idea for SOE to relaunch this game. I am disappointed at its timing. The fact WAR has just released, and every blog or news site is discussing that game gives Vanguard very little chance to make a dent.
Of course when people are not as enamored with the previous generation of MMO mechanics, they may take a chance on Vanguard.
