Ok since apparently I’m only required to post a single image, I’ll do it now rather than next week.

I’m unable to tell a story behind the screenshot itself, for reasons which will become apparent as you continue reading. In fact, I debated posting this image at all, but what the hell.

Unlike my music folder, I don’t get OCD about organizing my screenshots. At all. So there was no sixth sub-folder to check. I came up with the idea of writing a script to tally up the total number of screenshots I had scattered about and then selecting a random one, but I didn’t feel like rebooting to Linux to whip up a quick bash or Perl script. So a few minutes of Google-fu and a few helpful nudges from IRC helpdeskers, I hacked together a Windows batch script to do the job. Sticking with the “six” theme, the script looked at all the folders I keep screenshots and got a total number of how many screenshots I have then using that number as a root, generate a random number. I ran that script six times, getting six random image numbers. I then derived the average of those six numbers and added six to it, and opened that image. My first reaction was “uh oh!” because I am under NDA. But rather than re-running the script another six times, I’ll just go with it. But that little batch-script writing nerdgasm will have to suffice in lieu of telling the story of what all was happening that led up to pressing the PrtScrn key.

Mystery Beta Screenshot

Disclaimer: The screenshot above may or may not have been taken in early October 2008 by me playing what may or may not be my low-level character in what may or may not be a starting area in an MMORPG for which a beta may or may not exist and in which I may or may not be a participant.

Update: I didn’t realize John hadn’t been tagged for the meme and since he is specifically asking for it now, he can consider himself retroactively meme-tagged!

My “Sixth” sense is telling me “Six” times over that the screenshot looks like “Six” times of fail – oh, I mean…whats up with the one boot..
Oh my, guess you cannot say…NDA and all that.
    LOL

(and from wifey – WTF was all that equational speakage??? I couldnt figure out if I was impressed or terrified or oddly turned on…..)

Disclaimer: Sorry, the wife is actually taking over the keyboard tonight, and slaps me every time I try to erase this stuff…sorry man

I lost the other boot kicking some guard NPC’s ass? I don’t think I ever learned the back-story to the particular race we had to test at the time but that’s just how they were. I think they may have been cybernetic something-or-other but I honestly can’t recall at the moment and I’m not exact up to snuff on the lore of the IP either.

To uncover your mystery, I googled ‘NID’ and ‘MMO’, and came up with a bunch of people who needed help with stuff, and couldn’t spell ‘need’.

I’m guessing Stargate? It doesn’t quite look like most shots I’ve seen of Worlds…but NID and the symbol are pretty obvious. Kinda cartoonish looking to be stargate though…at least too much so for my liking.
